2009 Tax Credits for Energy Efficient HVAC Equipment
On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) into law. The bill combines spending and tax incentives designed to get the American economy moving again by investing in our nation’s road and energy infrastructure, and increasing the energy efficiency and performance of America’s homes and commercial buildings.
For qualified improvements, homeowners may be able to claim tax credits equal to 30% of the installed costs (up to $1,500).
The new tax credits are retroactive to January 1, 2009, and expire on December 31, 2010. The $1,500 limit is for all improvements made during the two year term, not $1500 each year.
Homeowners may use the entire $1,500 tax credit limit on a single qualifying improvement. The previous per-appliance caps that limited the homeowner to just $150 for a high efficiency furnace or $300 for a high efficiency central air conditioner or heat pump have been removed.
Homeowners that previously claimed tax credits in 2006 or 2007 are eligible for the full $1,500 limit.
thanks for this update
I don’t know why more people aren’t taking advantage of the tax credits that are available.
If you crunch the numbers, between the money you save with the tax credit, and the money you will save over time due to the air conditioner’s energy efficiency, its a no brainer to jump on this opportunity.
Thank you for sharing this update..
I firmly believe that the manufacturers of the systems should be more responsible and offer reduced wholesale pricing on the most economical air conditioners. Government tax credits are all good but restrict the savings to certain areas, and not everyone is eligible for the savings.
More people should be taking advantage of these tax credits, it is definitly worth the upfront cost, once you see how much you save later.
The current 2010 tax credit that started here in Texas is going fast. I think they had 20 million allocated to it and they used over 3 million by noon the first day.
in our place, the weather could turn out to be uncomfortably humid that is why we bought an air conditioner at home to reduce h~“
Great post! Tnx.
